WHAT IS FORMATION IN FOOTBALL?
Formation refers to the setup that a team used to play the game. Simply, Formation means the way how a team is lineup to play a game. It varies from Team to Team, Managers to Managers, Philosophy of a Team, Brand of Football etc. There are many varieties of formations in football.
They are:
- 4-3-3
- 4-2-3-1
- 4-2-2-2
- 4-3-1-2
- 4-4-2
- 5-3-2
- 5-2-3
- 5-4-1
- 3-4-3
- 3-4-2-1
- 3-5-2
- 4-3-3
Among the 4 defenders, the 2 CBs role is the maintain the defensive line solid and defend when there is goal threatening situations and according to the style of play the CBs role varies. If they play possession play then CBs should progress the ball and maintain high line, If the style of play is Counter Attack then the role of CBs is they should have the capacity to make Through balls etc. The Role of Full Backs are also varies on the style of play. If the Full Back plays Right flank of the field then he/she is known as Right Back i.e. RB and if he/she plays Left flank of the side then he/she is known as Left Back i.e. LB and simply their main role is helps forwards in attack with their crosses as well as passes and also tracks back and help their CBs to maintain defensive line solid.

The Last Area is the Attacking Line are there are 3 Players sitting in their own area i.e. Flank. On the Right hand Flank there is Right Winger Forward i.e. RWF whose main role is the stick in the flank or cut inside to his favorite foot to score or to assists same as the player in the Left Winger Forward i.e. LWF. And the sole guy in the middle of the park is knows as Central Forward i.e. CF whose main role is the Poacher of the goal or who falls back to set the game.
